How were The Terrazzo Floors Installed?
Due to the complexity of the installation, the terrazzo floors were installed in three phases. The first phase began at the start of the build-out when the building was an empty shell. The concrete subfloor was blasted with metal shot for optimal adhesion, followed by the application of an epoxy-based vapor barrier with a sand broadcast. A cement-based terrazzo was then poured, with marble chips hand-broadcast into the cement for the desired aesthetic.
In the second phase, the floor was ground to be perfectly flat and polished with progressively finer diamond-based tools. It was then treated with a temporary sealer and covered with heavy paper for protection while other finishes were installed.
In the final phase, a polishing pass removed any remaining construction-related contaminants. A matte polyurethane sealer was then applied to protect the floor from staining and everyday wear and tear.
